We wanted to do a holiday themed photo session this year. I am always wanting to push myself in different directions and try new things. So when the topic of Krampus came up as a alternative to the cheery, candy themed photos, I jumped right on board. I challenged some Denver Drag Queens to come up with their best interpretation of the Legend of Drag Krampus!
Krampus isn't exactly the stuff of dreams: Bearing horns, dark hair, fangs, and a long tongue, the anti-St. Nicholas comes with a chain and bells that he lashes about, along with a bundle of birch sticks meant to swat naughty children. He then hauls the bad kids down to the underworld. Krampus was created as a counterpart to kindly St. Nicholas, who rewarded children with sweets. Krampus, in contrast, would swat "wicked" children, stuff them in a sack, and take them away to his lair.
Who better to embody this legend than the spectacular Denver based drag queens Stella Ray Sexton and Holly Monroe. Who wants to be "wicked" this year?
